Komava Biotherapeutics Launches to Advance Regenerative Therapies for Chronic Wounds

Komava Biotherapeutics has launched as a preclinical-stage biotechnology company developing a bacterial cellulose platform for regenerative treatment of chronic wounds.

Paris, July 1st, 2026 : We are glad to announce the launch of Komava Biotherapeutics SAS, company specialized in chronic wounds innovative treatments using a bacterial cellulose (BC) platform. The bacterial cellulose (BC) scaffold is both the physical dressing and the delivery architecture. Its fibre network gives the mechanical and hydration properties of an advanced dressing while providing the internal volume in which the regenerative payload is held and released. The platform integrates three essential therapeutic functions within a single system: maintenance of a moist and protective wound environment, control of infection through antimicrobial activity, and controlled delivery of bioactive signals intended to reactivate tissue regeneration.

Komava is evaluating two complementary regenerative payload strategies on a common bacterial cellulose delivery platform, across three chronic wound indications : neuroischemic diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers and venous leg ulcers. All programmes are in preclinical development.

Komava is led by an executive team with deep experience in company management, product development, clinical trials, regulatory strategy, intellectual property, and go-to-market and post-market strategy.

  • Ahmed BOUZIDI, PhD, MBA, CEO : Ahmed’s senior executive experience in the biotechnology industry spans more than 30 years across Europe, China and the United States ;
  • Mylène TALABARDON, PhD, CSO, brings 25 years of extensive experience in the biotechnology industry, with senior CMC leadership roles at Biogen, Sanofi and Merck Serono ;
  • Hervé BROLY, PhD, CTO, is an internationally recognised bioprocess expert with more than 40 years of experience in the development, manufacture and validation of biotechnology processes. Hervé is also a pioneer of skin cell technologies at CRTS of Lille.

Despite significant advances in wound care, current therapies remain largely supportive. They address moisture balance, protection and infection control, which manage the environment around the wound rather than the biological mechanisms that have stalled inside it. Many chronic wounds therefore fail to heal, recur frequently, or progress to serious complications. » added Ahmed Bouzidi.

« Rather than progressing from inflammation into proliferation and remodelling, the wound is held in a self-sustaining inflammatory state. The signals that would normally drive repair are degraded faster than they can act, and the tissue never reaches the phase in which it would rebuild. Controlled delivery of regenerative bioactive signals, intends to reactivate the biological processes of tissue repair. The biological component is intended to deliver regenerative signals that reactivate the healing process, rather than only supporting the conditions around it. This is the component that distinguishes a regenerative platform from advanced wound management », said Mylène Talabardon, CSO.

Komava also works with specialist external development and manufacturing partners to support platform development, across biomaterial production, formulation, regenerative payload sourcing and antimicrobial components.
