Development pipeline

Building a pipeline from a common regenerative platform.

Our initial development focuses on diabetic foot ulcers, with pressure ulcers and venous leg ulcers providing additional opportunities for the platform.

Komava’s product candidates combine a common bacterial cellulose-based wound care platform with acellular regenerative payloads selected according to the biological needs of each targeted indication.

Diabetic foot ulcers are prioritised as the lead indication for clinical development, followed by pressure ulcers and venous leg ulcers.

Lead indication

Diabetic foot ulcers are a serious complication of diabetes and remain a major cause of morbidity, hospitalisation and lower-limb amputation.

Komava has selected neuroischemic diabetic foot ulcers as its lead indication, where impaired perfusion, neuropathy and disrupted tissue repair create multiple biological barriers to healing.

Selection rationale. The indication was prioritised based on unmet medical need, market opportunity and the potential for a regenerative approach to address key limitations of current wound management.

Pipeline expansion

Extending the platform across chronic wound indications.

The modular design of the Komava platform provides the opportunity to develop indication-specific regenerative therapies while retaining a common underlying wound care technology.

Venous Leg Ulcers

Venous leg ulcers are chronic wounds associated with venous hypertension, persistent inflammation and microcirculatory dysfunction.

Their high prevalence, particularly in ageing populations, represents an important potential expansion opportunity for the Komava platform.

Pressure Ulcers

Pressure ulcers result from prolonged mechanical loading and tissue ischaemia and remain a significant challenge in hospital, long-term care and home-care settings.

The combination of ischaemia, inflammation and impaired tissue regeneration makes pressure ulcers another potential application for Komava’s regenerative platform.
